Start Date and Schedule
The new season of the English Premier League (EPL) will officially kick off on the weekend of August 17/18, 2024. This comes just 90 days after the end of the 2023/24 season, with new teams, kits, and players ready to reignite the competition. The season will run until May 25, 2025, with the final round of matches taking place on the same day and at the same time.
This season’s EPL matches will be spread across 33 weekends, with four midweek rounds and one bank holiday match. To address fixture congestion during the Christmas and New Year period, the EPL will offer more rest time during three festive match rounds, ensuring that no club plays two matches within 60 hours. Notably, there will be no matches on December 24, 2024, unlike the Wolves vs. Chelsea game on Christmas Eve in 2023.
Matchdays and Broadcast Arrangements
The schedule for all 380 EPL matches will be released on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 9:00 AM. Last year, the live broadcast selections for the opening weekend were confirmed simultaneously. All match dates and kick-off times are subject to change without prior notice.
From the 2024/25 season onwards, Sky Sports will exclusively broadcast 128 EPL matches. Starting from the 2025/26 season, with the signing of a new four-year deal, a record-breaking minimum of 215 EPL matches will be broadcast live each season. Fans will be able to watch highlights of every EPL match on the Sky Sports website, app, and YouTube channel for free.
Summer Transfer Window and New Teams
The 2024 EPL summer transfer window will open on Friday, June 14, the same day as the start of Euro 2024. The transfer window will close at 11:00 PM UK time on August 30. This move aligns the EPL with other major European leagues. The new deadline was set following discussions with leagues from England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France.
The new EPL season will see the arrival of several new teams. Leicester City will make their first return to the EPL from the Championship, while Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town will return to the top flight after a 22-year absence. The complete lineup for the 2024/25 season will be finalized after the Championship play-off final on May 26.
International Matchdays and Special Arrangements
According to FIFA’s men’s international match calendar, England’s national team matches will take place during the international matchdays on September 1–9, October 6–14, and November 10–18, 2024. Another international matchday is scheduled from March 23–31, 2025, to coincide with the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
More Live Broadcasts and New Channels
Sky Sports will launch a new “Sky Sports+” channel in August 2024, offering sports fans more viewing options at no extra cost. This new channel will provide more coverage through live broadcasts and a dedicated channel, featuring the EPL, two tennis tours, and the men’s Super League. Customers will enjoy over 50% more live sports events throughout the 2024/25 season.
